Scouting Goes Virtual

Date: 6th Jul 2020 Author: Steven Carson

The Corona Virus has a massive impact to nearly every element of normal life, Scouting included. With Social distancing currently in place The Scout Association has banned all face to face meetings.

That doesn’t mean that Scouting stops though! The Group wanted to ensure that young people still had a chance to see their friends, learn new skills and work towards their badges. Within weeks of the lock down commencing we were back up and running with weekly virtual meetings.  It was a learning curve for everyone at first but these have proven to be a great success with the majority of young people attending and having a great time!

In addition to the weekly meetings we also had our first Group Camp at Home. This saw families camping in dens, back gardens… anywhere other than their bed. The camp was a huge successes and we hope to run this again in the near future.

We all look forward to things returning to normal, but until then we will continue to ensure that Scouting at 1st Datchet doesn’t stop.
